Imagine a life without chocolates. Cannot, right?

Do you know that the city of York is known as the “chocolate city”? Are you aware that in the Mesoamerican civilizations, like the Aztecs and Mayans, cocoa beans were used as money owing to their high value?

All about Diane’s love for chocolates!

I was a wee little lass of about 10 years when I toured a cocoa plantation in Brazil with my parents. I remember walking alongside the large, green, and glossy leaves of the trees and brushing my hands past them in awe.

The guided walk through the fields full of cocoa trees lasted for about fifteen minutes if not more with the skilled “Rubert” – I still remember his name – filling us in on the lifecycle of the plants, harvesting, and more. But what really got my attention was the bean-to-bar workshop. I vividly remember roasting the beans. What an exciting process it was!

I would be lying if I said this was when I fell in love with chocolates. It was earlier – when I was as big as a six-year-old should be, my grandpop came to visit us. He gifted me a bar of dark chocolate. The first bite of it acquainted me with a sensory experience like never before. The slightly bitter aroma mingled with the gritty feel of the bar melted in my mouth and slowly revealed the earthy taste of roasted nuts. And that is when I was bewitched!

With age, I started collecting chocolates, not just to eat them, but also to learn about the variety that exists. I even visited the coca plantation in Brazil a few years back which had me awestruck as a kid. Trust me when I say this, I was over the moon to have been there. The pictures you see here are from that location.

I know, I might sound a little cuckoo about chocolates but their health benefits have got me completely smitten with them. Needless to say, my blog also explores other food items as well and the different ways daily nutrition can be made wholesome and appealing to the taste buds.
